Peterborough is the largest market we serve and the most varied. Century homes in the Old West End and Avenue neighbourhoods, post-war housing through the middle of the city, newer development on the north and west edges, and lake properties running out into the Kawarthas.

The lake properties are where most of our Peterborough work sits. Cottages being converted to year-round homes, additions on properties with limited access, and builds on lots where getting materials in is genuinely part of the problem. Access, servicing and winter work all change what a job costs, and a quote that ignores them is not a real quote.

In the city, the older neighbourhoods carry the same issues as Cobourg and Port Hope: plaster over lath, no insulation in the walls, wiring that predates modern demand, and previous renovations of varying quality stacked on top of each other.

Permits go through the City of Peterborough for city addresses, and through the relevant township for lake and rural properties. Those are different offices with different timelines, and knowing which one you are dealing with before you design anything saves weeks.
